I stayed up last night zipping through Florence of Arabia by Christopher Buckley. (Yes, of "those" Buckleys.) The only other CB book I’d read was The White House Mess, a long time ago, in college. It was a treat to actually giggle out loud every few pages, especially now that I have a better (if impossibly incomplete) understanding of the Muslim world. It was interesting to note that one of the people CB thanks in the end is Fatema Mernissi who is one of the foremost feminist scholars of Islam, a famous resident of Rabat, and someone whose books I’ve never managed to plow through. Too bad Florence was published before the invention of the burqini.
MoBob has presumably landed safely in France by now although I haven’t had a chance to speak with him. Amusing to think that we have never been to Paris together except for layovers in Paris-CDG.
