We were planning to see "The Lego Batman Movie" on Friday night at one of the many outdoor movie series but it was rained out. Z was complaining of an earache anyway so we watched the movie at home courtesy of Amazon Prime while it stormed. We went to a baseball-themed birthday party on Saturday and then Z took a long nap. On Sunday I gave a talk at church which I may post later. Then we went to the "learning about chocolate" activity at the US Botanic Gardens. Z complained about the heat so we didn't spend much time in the children's garden as planned. It had been renovated earlier this year and the little grove of trees in the middle had been replaced by some sort of play structure. I wasn't thrilled about that decision. On Monday we all took the day off and went to a restaurant on the beach past Annapolis for our annual back to school beach day. It was overcast but it didn't stop us from enjoying the crabs or the bay. Z's new teacher came over with another teacher for the back to school home visit. She seemed young and energetic - quite a different style from Z's very Zen teacher last year.
Z has started to watch some of the classic kids' movies. We started with the Jungle Book (since he'd already seen the play), then Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland. Next up is the Peanuts movie. He's seen a couple of films in theaters but they were pretty exceptional - the Miffy movie, or the short film series for kids at the National Gallery of Art. I'm following suggestions from Commonsense Media and enjoying seeing the Disney movies again.
Going to Bangladesh for a week on Friday.
Legos night at the local park.
Not a lot of chocolate at the US Botanic Gardens.
Beach day, Maryland style.
