In an hour or so I'm leaving for the airport, for Boston to attend the Exponent retreat in NH and then I fly from Boston to Dakar via JFK and Paris on Sunday evening. My tummy was very unsettled yesterday but now I'm OK - hopefully my GI system will behave. The Air France flight from JFK leaves around midnight - I wonder if there will be anyone famous on the plane?
Last Saturday we attended Baby Z's first tot gymnastics class at another YMCA facility. The gym was dedicated solely to gymnastics and the instructor re-arranged the equipment to be more kid-friendly. Baby Z did several circuits and seemed to really enjoy swinging and sliding. Then it was off to Bethesda to participate in a couple of free classes at Imagination Stage. It was really fun - each class took a classic book and built activities around it - for example, for the Very Hungry Caterpillar everyone pretended to be a caterpillar and "burst" out of the cocoon with colored pieces of cloth. Baby Z was knackered for the first class but woke up in time to star gaze for "Goodnight, Moon."
On Sunday one of my favorite colleagues invited us for an afternoon at the family homestead deep in the Virginia countryside. Baby Z looked for fish in the pond and checked out the sandbox under an old, gnarled tree. Overall, an excellent excursion with good food and better company. As much as we love city life, I can definitely see the advantages of wide spaces for little ones.
