accidental baraka

Baby Z ended the snowy day by tearing out and eating pages from a book he found on a lower bookshelf. MoBob thought it was amusing and called me over to watch until he realized...it was the Koran. Specifically it was an old paperback copy in French, not the fancy hardbound fake green leather with gold filigree family heirloom version in Arabic. Still, both of us were like, #$#&@! We are going to hell for sure. When I posted about this on Facebook, one of our friends, who happened to be an anthropologist specializing in Morocco, reminded us that there is a physical essence to baraka (luck?) so we might even be ahead of the game. Or at least Baby Z is.

Another dear friend gave us a copy of Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns: A Muslim Book of Colors. She'd also given us her daughters' board books on the Book of Mormon and other important church scriptures. Surprisingly it's been difficult finding kids' books on either religion. The Mormon series we inherited is out of print, and when I contacted the author of the Golden Domes book (she's in Maryland), she only had a couple of recommendations herself.

On our reading list.
