Today was my monthly Bassou check-up. It feels a little strange to go to the doctor, or, in this case, the nurse practitioner, and stay fully clothed. We talked about how I was feeling and addressed any concerns I had, like my general dislike of veggies. We listened to B's strong and steady heartbeat. I also had to pay a visit to the cardiology department to do an EKG, due to some earlier irregularities. The only unusual factor was that I have not gained very much weight. Normally in the pre-Bassou era I put on pounds with every breath. But for some reason, despite few changes to my eating habits (like eating more veggies), and Thanksgiving indulgences and cheesesteaks in Philly, I have stayed at the same number since my last visit. And only gained 4 pounds since October. Granted, I no longer have the intense "feed me or I'll chew my arm off" impulses, but I still eat pretty heftily. Weird.
I left the office a little earlier for meetings in my "second office." Since security is so time-consuming and onerous I often ask people to come to the Secret Starbucks deep inside one of the nearby hotels. It's got lots of couches and armchairs, relatively little traffic, free wi-fi, snacks and drinks, nice restrooms, lots of outlets, and even a spillover area into the lobby. I usually go there a couple of times a month and try to schedule back-to-back meetings. A very pleasant alternative to the hassle of getting badges and escorting people to and from impossible to find meeting rooms.
I lost forty pounds with Scott and about 35 with Ben and Bethy. It was AFTER I had the kids that I gained it all - but I blame the birth control they put me on (and not the cheesecake). *giggles*
I think it's super smart to plan meetings at a coffee shop back to back. As long as you're not discussing state secrets - it's a great place. My mom does her Visiting Teaching at an iHop. They get four or five sisters together and all do it there. Ingenious. The teachers all teach eachother and stuff. Way fun.
