Today I was in a meeting and when we left one of the other participants said, "Congratulations!" I was confused - it turns out she thought I was expecting. Apparently my saying to several people that I was going to be in and out for different medical appointments was somehow extrapolated into pregnancy. I guess "surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome" doesn't have the same cachet.
Oops! I'm guessing she/he will never make that mistake again. I had a similar experience when I went back to work after delivering Petey. One of the other employees (someone I saw in passing, but not on a very regular basis) said, "Haven't you had that baby yet?!" Um, yes, about two months ago! Nothing like that to boost up your self esteem.
