When I come back from work trips I make an effort to thank my colleagues, especially foreign nationals, by sending a postcard of Washington DC. I received the following email this morning from the admin assistant in Bangladesh:

Dear Sylvia:

I don’t know when I surprised last time, but your card is really surprising one for me.
Today when I found your card, I was simply speechless. First I thought it come to wrong mail box, after going through it, I understand it’s from you.

Many thanks for remembering me. Greetings to your family and friends too.

Best regards,
MNB

Maybe I could do this with my incoming international PhD students. Something of G'ville welcoming them here.
