Another busy weekend, starting early Saturday morning, when S. came over with bagels and cream cheese to see the storage hacks we've managed in our apartment. Then she dropped me off at the National Museum of American History where I watched a noontime concert of Christmas classics by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. A great show, except for the clueless tourists getting in the way. That evening MoBob and I met at Catholic University of America for the annual Paskong Pinoy (Filipino Christmas) show. Much better this time around, without the annoying commentators but alas, no food. One of the traditional parol lights against the snow. But I managed to get some photos of the beautiful traditional costumes. On Sunday, I slept through my alarm for church (!). We strolled around the Downtown Holiday Market which was the usual assortment of crafts, ate our Chipotle lunch in the Kroger courtyard, and watched the Redskins lose (again) in Bar Louie. We babysat on Sunday night and kept company with Daisy. I just came back from a screening of Motown 25 at the Library of Congress. It was a little time-warpy to watch a variety show celebrating Motown that was filmed in 1983. Marvin Gaye was still alive, Richard Pryor was healthy, and Michael Jackson performed "Billie Jean." My favorite part though was the "Battle of the Bands" between the Temptations and the Four Tops. The Temptations definitely won. Most WTF moment: Adam Ant grinding with Diana Ross. |
