M and I made our weekly trek to the Lebanese supermarket and found a lovely sight to behold: cartons and cartons of Bridel milk.
In the nick of time as I had despaired of the local milk that came in little bags. Not only were they messy but they tasted very…bovine.

Sylvia, I am so enjoying your blog. I must confess that I am a milkaholic and cannot conceive of going without real milk for weeks on end. I would get very, very cranky. So I'm glad that you have discovered a supplier.

Does Bridel taste at all like Parmalat? I think Parm does very well in a pinch.

Re: Milkaholism
Jana, thanks for your kind comments. I am also a serious milkaholic. I often feel like the Taltos in Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches trilogy. "Get me 5 kilos of white, runny cheese - stat!" I spent a year in college in Australia and one of my classmates told me he could always tell who the Americans are because they're the only ones who drink milk as adults. Of course, ice cream is always a good choice in the fight against osteoperosis.

Unfortunately Parmalat isn't available here - I imagine the taste must be similar.

UHT milk is a must-have
Even though I'm in the land of milk, and more milk, and cheese, and etc., I always keep several cartons of UHT milk on hand. They're so great to have around when you realize your milk has gone a couple days past its use-by. But I don't actually drink milk, so I can't comment on the taste (although I have to say that the fresh milk in der Schweiz is quite tasty...for milk), but I always have it for cooking or cereal when needed. Glad you found a fix!
