I was an awkward and overweight kid (and am an awkward and overweight adult) so I never really played in sports. In college I took PE classes in fencing, swimming, and tennis and really enjoyed them. But the women's beginner level tennis league I'm on is really the first time I've been on a team. I've really been inspired - everyone's so encouraging. The team dynamic is different too since we play either singles or doubles - unlike other sports we're never all on the field at the same time. The only downside is that even though the league was advertised as "no experience necessary" the majority of players, at least on our team, seemed to have a good skill level (even myself) and so the absolute beginners have dropped out. Oh well. It's been a great opportunity to meet women who work in different fields, though invariably I end up walking home with the one woman who works for an international non-profit and we end up talking shop.
I wish we had matching outfits.
I wish you had matching outfits too! Maybe you can organize this?
I'm really impressed that you are going forward - I admire that. I was never much for team sports either, and one reason was that I lacked experience. I don't think I could join a tennis team, but who knows, maybe I'll take some lessons :D
I'm amazed at how many "childhood sport" teams there are here - I'd love to play kickball or dodgeball again. The teams that play on the Mall have matching uniforms. The tennis team agreed on a general color scheme but decided that going further would be too complicated.
