Though even the media technicians at the Verizon Center were closely following the Redskins debacle, the place was packed for the Caps game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was the first time for both MoBob and myself. We had a great time! After the first quarter I stopped wincing every time someone got checked, and ignored the kids behind us shouting "Kill 'em, kill 'em!" I was really impressed with the live organ accompaniment too - once in awhile the organist would appear on the jumbotron and wave. The Caps won, and no blood was spilled.
We were high up but had a great view.
Our silly matching red hats.
When we arrived at Union Station after the game we saw an older couple waiting inside the ticket area looking confused. The lady wore a headscarf, so MB went up and asked if they needed help. They were from Somalia, had just returned from Mecca, and missed their connecting flight to Columbus, Ohio. They were told to take the bus, but they didn't know where it was in relation to Union Station (it is a little tricky to find) and had been informed that it wasn't a safe neighborhood (it was already after 10pm). So good-hearted MB escorted them to the Greyhound bus station. MB told me afterwards that they were really grateful and relieved - I hope they made their way. And I gave MB an extra smooch for his service.
