doing my part (Mormon version)

Inspired by a recent post on Feminist Mormon Housewives, I called the Washington DC temple to put Barack Obama's name on the temple prayer roll.

The prayer roll is a list of names which is prayed over for the next two weeks by people who are in the temple. Usually people who are sick or having a difficult time are put on the list. I think it's a pretty cool idea. It can't hurt, anyway. If Obama loses, he and his supporters will definitely fall into the "otherwise afflicted" category.

That's all I got. Considering he makes my skin crawl.

But I'm glad you feel like you're doing your part. We are supposed to pray for our leaders.

Don't hold back now, Jessica. Tell us how you really feel....

That's exactly how I feel about McCain. Luckily we've agreed to disagree on this. Or have we? :D

I think I was mainly just shocked because if I was going through a session at that temple doing that would inadvertantly make ME pray for him too. Which would kinda choke me - as I'd never make y'all pray for John McCain (did I tell you I have a nephew named after him? I do - he's 9).

But I softened it with a YAY for praying for your leaders. that has to count for something. :P

Hrm... I never thought of it that way. Although, when you do think of it that way, there's all sorts of people on the lists, I'm sure.

That said, I can understand where you're coming from because it'll take me a while to be happy about praying for John McCain if he is elected...

A of F #12 is one I struggled with when I was living in West Africa. One time I visited the ward in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, right after a coup attempt, and the SS lesson was on A of F #12. The teacher was very insistent that members obey this article, even though the government was so corrupt and incompetent.

You go! I hadn't even thought of that.

And as for the otherwise afflicted, of course I'll continue to pray for our leaders if (large IF) McCain wins, but it'll certainly take a while for the sour taste to leave my mouth...

I left a message carefully spelling out Obama's name - I could imagine the expression of the elderly temple worker taking it down!
