What vacation?! I was so busy. I got a lot done - I'm especially proud of the basement - but I don't feel as if I got any rest at all. I was in the office on Friday morning since my boss was going on vacation herself this week so I already have a preview of what awaits me before I leave for Portland on Saturday.
We scored a TV off freecycle and have been watching the Olympics. I especially enjoy segments where athletes from smaller countries win, like the Romanian woman who won the marathon or the Tunisian swimmer who won the 1500m. Unfortunately when it comes to our household it seems more likely that Morocco will medal than the Philippines. (We both cheer for the Americans.)
Watching the Australian swimmers reminded me of the few times I actually used the pool at the Australian Institute of Sport, where the walls were lined with Aussie flags so that every time you raise your head to breathe you're reminded of what you're swimming for.
People over this side of the pond are quite upset that the Tunisian pipped our hero at the post!
I never thought of my fellow Australians as having any particular attachment to the flag, you barely used to see them in public, but the Howard years seem to have prompted an upswell which doesn't appear likely to disappear any time soon.
