Why do I love DC? Because of events like Artomatic. Very impressive - as the website breathlessly exclaims, "1,000 artists - 10 floors - Artomatic 2008 is here!" MoBob and I are way far from being artsy alternative, so it was a treat to join the tattooed crowd past 10pm last night. (I imagine that all these folks are suit-clad bureaucrats during the day.) We came for the DCTribal Hafla (see previous entry) and stayed to look around a bit.
During the Belly-Dancing 101 lesson before the performances. I had to dig around the basement to find my gear. I'm wearing a belt I purchased at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.
At heart I am a belly-dancing traditionalist. This was the first time I'd seen tribal fusion. It was a little strange for me to see belly-dancers performing traditional moves to Arab techno pop and wearing sports bras and disco pants. No thank you. But at least I got an idea of the community.
Two of the exhibits - we only explored two floors. On the 12th floor we hung out on the furniture display from West Elm and admired the nightscape.
Our favorite exhibit - the Peeps! Check out the photo gallery: See the Dioramas in the Marshmallowy Flesh

The apple pie I baked Friday afternoon:
Thanks! I don't know how they kept kids away from the peeps because I was tempted to pick one up and eat it. As for the pie, I couldn't find the glass pie plate, so I used a regular cake pan instead, and it turned out less runny. Weird.
