I'm excited and a little stressed about my upcoming work trip to Lyon. I'll be gone for 10 days, the first week in official annual meetings with country directors and my fellow program directors, then the second week in individual meetings with everyone else. I've only been to Paris and I'm happy to not only see the head office and match faces to emails, but also to see another part of France. I'm also planning to see MoBob's sister's family in Sète. (Curiously, the RailEurope website and the SNCF website showed completely different prices, schedules, and itineraries, so I'll just buy my TGV ticket there.) I'll be returning for another set of meetings in November, and probably again in January or February for a training, so at least I don't feel pressured to see/do everything in one trip.

My wish list of tourist sites:
* Saint-Jean and the Croix-Rousse areas (neighborhoods named UNESCO World Heritage Sites)
* African Museum of Lyon
* Museum of French Resistance and Deportation (sharing a building with HI, in fact)
* Museum of Cinema - did you know movies were invented in Lyon?
* Interpol - I wonder if it's open to the public

Too bad I'll miss the Rugby World Cup in September.

Shopping list:
* Harry Potter books in French - MB left them all in Burkina Faso!
* fridge magnet for my mom - special request
* maybe some textiles unique to the region.....

Sounds wonderful. I'm sure you'll have fun.

I'm kicking myself for not making it to France while I've been so close, but then there are so many places on my list that I haven't got to this year. Just means I'll have to come back some time!

And of course you should try to cross the pond to see the fabulous (free) museums here!

On the (ever growing) list! If I ever manage extended time off again I'd love to make an 'Americas' trip. I've always wanted to see South America and my list of contacts in the US and Canada keeps growing, so I reckon I could manage a tour through North America hopping from couch to couch :)

I always regret not seeing Uluru, and missing Mt. Cook in NZ. But the uni holidays were so short! I went to Queensland instead....

I suspect no matter how much a person travels there's always going to be somewhere else on the list that you never quite make it to. There are so many amazing places to visit in this world!

I'm afraid it's a couch (or an inflatable bed in the living room) in DC - you would've had a proper guest room in Little Rock.

!!!

Do you have time?!

Maybe we should plan on November instead - that way I can schedule in a free weekend before or after, and I won't have to spend my evenings ingratiating myself with colleagues.

I may well have time, it depends on when and what your plans are. a work night might be a bit of a stretch, so i don't know if you'll be there a friday night or any time on the weekend. i'll leave it up to you to decide when we do it! make me some suggestions depending on your itinerary, but i'd love an excuse to go to lyon!
