a day without dollars

I've resolved that I'm not going to spend money on random, unnecessary "stuff" anymore, particularly after having unpacked, purged, and organized our possessions for the past two months. So I went cashless - apart from $1 and change, and an emergency 20 that I always tuck away - and put a little sticky on my checkcard that says "do you really need to buy this?" So far it's worked; I even wandered around the mammoth CVS across from the office and walked out empty-handed. It was a bigger struggle when I arrived at Union Station to meet MoBob and I was feeling peckish. I was sorely tempted to stop by McD's but then I thought about how important it's been for us to be financial secure, and just went on home.

My run of good luck has continued at least as I won a pair of free tickets to see Broken English from the Alliance Française. But I'm also tempted to attend a reading by two Bay Area Fil-Am writers the same evening, especially as MB is in class anyway....

You have much stronger willpower than me. Good strategy.

Then last night I sorted out my travel gear and bought some mini security friendly goodies this morning. :/

Obviously they were necessities, which is completely different to going out and spending mindlessly ;)

I'm still allowed coffee in the morning, but today is the first day this week I've bought lunch (I haven't bought it yet, and unfortunately the answer is yes, I do need it!).

But I went to the mall yesterday and bought nothing, even tried on clothes then left! So I am working on the same strategy, since I now have 3 types of debt I am working on. Hopefully by the time this job ends, I'll be in better shape, but that's not too far away.

Eeek! The McD's at Union Station, Washinton DC. That brings back memories, it does. Amazing architecture. So many homeless vets. Such a set of contrasts.

so you think you have self-control?
Try visiting the Paper Source in Georgetown and see if you're able to leave empty-handed ;-)
