And of course I love talking about myself, so I couldn't resist.

From the ever thoughtful M&M, more "five things" you probably don't know about me:

* the incessantly played soundtrack of my adolescence was the Smiths' "How Soon is Now." I think I even went to the concert with clynne.

* a co-worker who moonlights as a Mary Kay consultant recently told me I had beautiful skin tone. But I think my best feature is my hair, which is glossy even if I shampoo with a bar of soap.

* my alternative dream jobs (in no particular order) are: travel writer, professional organizer, or PhD student in French.

* as an undergrad history major, I wrote my senior thesis on African American women's clubs in Oakland CA, my honors thesis on British women travelers in Australia and New Zealand, and my tutorial paper in grad school on gender-sensitive family planning programs in Nepal.

* I'm an only child, my mom's an only, and my dad is an only with three half-siblings - very unusual for Filipino families.

I have never been to Nepal...I wanted to research a country that I'd never been to and didn't know. It was just fascinating! I might be able to go for work after the holidays.

It's sad but Nepal used to be such a terrific place to visit. Thanks to all the crap that has been happening; it's pretty much in the dumps right now. Hope things look up after the elections.

I think this was the concert where you parents waited outside and watched the meteor showers. How romantic!

what did you find out about british women travellers in australia and nz?

I'll have to take another look, but I remember that they had very different attitudes toward each country (NZ was more "English", Aust.'s frontier more hostile), but also recognized that each colony was developing its own cultural identity (accent, attitudes toward the Aborigines/Maoris, etc). It was great fun to research.

I even thought about returning to the ANU for PhD studies, or even NZ (since I only traveled there for a month or so). Alas.
