Compared to last year's experience, this year's ear tube surgery was a relative piece of cake. The ENT specialist had found that one tube had completely come out and the other was on the verge, and that fluid remained in both ears. He was concerned that the fluid was affecting Z's hearing. So he scheduled a second surgery. This time it was less than half an hour; we spent more time in the waiting room and in the cafeteria than Z spent in surgery. I think what also helped was starting the week before hand we began playing regularly with his toy medical kit. We pretended to take blood pressure, give shots, etc. and took turns. Of course it also helps that we went to a hospital exclusively for kids.

Z rode to surgery in a custom taxi cab.
