Remember how I was a little disconcerted that there were so few Filipinos in Arkansas?
My worries, at least food-wise, have been alleviated somewhat. Yesterday a colleague from Hong Kong kindly took me to the two Asian groceries in Little Rock, both of which are located near the university. They seemed well-stocked and one was owned by a Filipino family (the other by Koreans). Then we went to a Vietnamese restaurant whose lunch clientele seemed to be half Asian - always a good sign! We joined other colleagues, one from Singapore, one from Cambodia, and a young man who moved to Little Rock after finishing grad school in Pittsburgh. It was good fun and eating real pho soup made me feel right at home. Plus I'd bought a large bag of frozen gyoza/potstickers, yum!
