New Year's Eve was pretty quiet. It's our 11th wedding anniversary too. We stayed in and ordered pizza and chicken wings while Baby Z slept. On the first day of 2014 we slept in and then attended an open house. My social skills were maxed out in a couple of hours but it was still wonderful to see everyone. Plus there was salmon! One of the many raw items (like ceviche and sushi) that I missed while pregnant.

I've been wondering whether or not we should get rid of the Pack N Play. We used the bassinet feature after bedbugs invaded the co-sleeper bed, and then Baby Z got wriggly and hence so did the bassinet. It's now a hideous addition to the living room, but it's a handy place to park Baby Z when I'm alone and need to use the bathroom or work in the kitchen. We have a baby gate to close off the kitchen now and Baby Z likes to hang on to it and watch one of us cook, but he wanders from time to time and I'd rather he stay trapped in the PnP. Oddly he can sleep in the crib but not in the PnP even though they're roughly the same size and the same height off the ground. Maybe it's the surroundings? The crib is next to a blank wall while the PnP is pushed up against the bookcase. They probably feel different too mattress-wise. I do feel a tinge of nostalgia for the PnP since it was the first baby purchase we ever made, a $50 Target special.

The one item that has been surprisingly, consistently useful has been the boppy (purchased for $10 off the local parenting listserv). During the breastfeeding saga I actually had better luck with my brest friend (inherited from a dear friend) (who comes up with these names?!) but I've used the boppy with Baby Z since the beginning. He rests his head on it, even now, and earlier we used it for tummy time and to help him sit up. Heck, I've used it as a head pillow, since it is exactly like one of those neck cushions used for travel.

*I'm adding all the acquisition info because I'm always trying to convince myself that we've been frugal and environmental when it comes to baby stuff.*

Congratulations on your anniversary!

Since I had two kids under two, I had two different boppys. The kids are now 6 & 8 and use them as individualized head cushions when they read. I still have all the covers and keep changing them as they tend to take their reading cushions all over the house. It's a cute momento for me.

I can't tell you how much I used those daft boppys. I have traveled around the world using them and clutching them as both kids refused the bottle and had to be boob fed for 15months each.

Good to know! I feel like we should have one for every room.
