Although I'm generally aggrieved about the flood of vitriol, and the inability of people like my parents who can't explain why they are anti-Obama (They Just Are), and people I know who vote Republican despite the numerous rape apologists.

I'm also disappointed with fellow church members who imply that there's something lacking with my testimony because I vote D (last I heard party affiliation was not a question on the temple recommend interview - and I am a card-carrying member!), or the multitude of FB posts about the end times. Or forgetting Article of Faith #12: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

I'm heartened by the presence of groups like Mormons for Obama, and friends like Joanna Brooks and Jana Riess who are so much more eloquent than I am. Most of all: I love America. I love President Obama. And I love being a Mormon. Why is that so hard for anyone to believe?

I just received the followoing from a fellow saint in an email:
Maybe you should smoke some of that stuff the liberals legalized and call it a day ;)
Smily faces always make insults better, don't you think?

I got the same thing from my very Mormon Utah family - or should I say Paul's family. Questioning our morals as if we're somehow lacking. One went so far as to say, "I may not support the President of the United States, but I do support the President of the Manti Temple. Holla!!!" (my in-laws are Temple President and Matron of the Manti Temple).

Whatever. I'm fed up and disgusted and I really hope I'd have been a better example of a graceful loser had Obama lost.

Heretic!

I voted for Jill Stein. In many ways, Obama just isn't liberal enough for my tastes. I saw a lot of end times melodrama on FB yesterday (made me roll my eyes; I actually do see our nation on a moral and financial death spiral, but Romney would have continued it just as much as Obama, if not more), but luckily, I haven't really seen much of "if you're Mormon, you must be Republican!" I have one wacky aunt is a very paranoid conservative, and she posts all kinds of conspiracy theory stuff about everything and "Democrats are evil" stuff, but mercifully, she's the only one.

Move to Denmark Sylvia ... there are a few mormons who are openly pro republican, but I think the majority (maybe even the majority of mormons) are reasonably pro democrat ... emigrate ... come and see us! If nothing else, you can help tease our young american republican missionaries over dinner ... it's our weekly sport, and they learn to love us for it ...
