MoBob and I had been half-heartedly trying over the past year, and we started seeing a fertility specialist in April. We'd just finished all the preliminary tests when I'd left for my big trip to Thailand and the Philiippines. When I came back I was tired and my boobs were sore, and I was late, but this had happened before on previous trips so I just wrote it off as jet-lag. I was feeling really emotional too - for some reason I'd just burst into tears thinking about Betsy the water buffalo.
I also had a big ear infection, so when I went to see our GP, I asked her to do a pregnancy test. MB had come with me, and when she showed us the results, MB was over the moon, and I was just...stunned. So stunned that when the doctor asked if we wanted to keep the pee strip I said no, and then a couple of minutes later I asked her to fish it out from the wastebasket.
That night, August 20th, I had my last ceviche ever at Station 4, the neighborhood bistro, and the following morning I called my parents. I think my mother was also flabbergasted, because all I could hear was silence, and then when I asked if she was still connected, she said that she'd broken into a sweat. I had my performance evaluation that same morning so I told my boss then. MB has told his family in France but not yet in Morocco. Later that week we already had an appointment with the fertility specialist again so I requested a blood test which made everything even more official. And in true Washingtonian fashion, the next day at work I started calling around about childcare.
I'm so so so excited that we get to be here for this process! I got my LJ before I had Bethy and now people still comment with "Oh my gosh, I remember when she was so teeny!" and now we will get to do the same thing for YOU! I'm SOOO excited!
