I heard this morning on BBC Afrique a segment about a club for soccer widows.

I really think what's saving MoBob and myself from mutually assured destruction is:
* that he is in Ouahigouya busy with the Peace Corps trainees most of the time
* my portable DVD/CD player + headphones
* separate couches in the living room

It was bad enough during the Africa Cup of Nations. We were invited to a colleague's house the evening of the final and when we arrived all the men were clustered around the TV. And of course MoBob joined them. Aargh.

The World Cup I imagine will be ten times worse.

What alarmed me the most was that in January MoBob asked me: What's the Superbowl?

i think "what's the superbowl" is a valid question :)

why don't you join them coz you can't beat 'em, pick a few teams to follow and get into it. scare the pants off 'em :)

you have every reason to follow australia and togo. switzerland might be a stretch out of my 3 teams of interest... but you can follow them if you like :)

His favorite term in English already is "couch potato." I'm afraid that once I leave on holiday he'll be velcroed to the couch and I'll have to peel him off with a spatula upon my return.

I might have to follow the US team just for self-torment.

Did you see the photo of Mr. Swiss 2005 in my previous post?!

No i missed the link to mr switzerland. though i did watch some of the pageant for the laughs. those photos are sensational! i like the pitchfork one :)

they just did a story on the radio about how heart attacks went up here during the previous few world cups and they've advised people to watch the matches with other people around so they can help when a cardiac arrest occurs! how odd...

Yep, believe or it. I guess the US team is just is a very lame region. (Morocco didn't make it, bwah-ha-ha.)

I'd like to know if the typical World Cup bar patron knows CPR!

hahahah... i think the highest risk were people sitting at home on their couches, and higher risk if they were drinking and smoking at the same time.

i like how the world cup gets blamed for that...

football is a health hazard :)
