It just occurred to me that I am leaving for Nairobi a week from tomorrow. I guess I better get a move on.
Last night I was lucky enough to get a front row, center seat at the Reunion to Celebrate Publication of "The Poets Laureate Anthology" at the Library of Congress. The auditorium was completely packed, and, as one speaker noted, showed that poetry was alive and well in Washington DC. I'm sure most people came to see Billy Collins but all the poets, really, were wonderful, and quite humorous.
At tennis practice on Tuesday evening I'd arrived a little early so the assistant coach, Handsome Skip, made me run a few drills. For a time I was actually in the fabled Zone, where there was nothing except me, the racket, the ball, and Skip's voice counting off, and I hit 162 balls in a row. I don't think I'll ever beat that personal best.
