Last night I went out with my visiting teaching companion and while we were catching up I mentioned "that stupid volcano." She didn't know what I was talking about. Wow. I wouldn't mind living in a world where "that stupid volcano" was not even on my radar, either literally or figuratively.
I was thinking about how to commemorate MoBob's impending "real American" status and I decided to contact the folks I knew at church who are somehow politically connected. I was able to score a congratulatory letter from Senator Reid and perhaps a letter from Secretary Clinton - hopefully MB's compelling immigrant story (and impeccable taste in spouses) and the fact that HRC visited his home province in 1999 will be convincing.
Jana Reiss nominated MB and myself to be interviewed for a feature on interfaith marriages on Patheos. I'm really curious how this will be presented - apparently our interview will be posted on the interfaith page and separately on the Mormon and Muslim pages.
Ooooh, this may explain why you were asking if B is my cousin.
And though I couldn't spell or pronounce the name of the volcano if my life depended on it, how does someone have no idea what is even going on?! I've been pretty much a slacker in following the news these days, but even I get the gist of what's going on here on planet Earth.
Wow. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be so unaware of what's happening around the world. But then, it could be that there isn't a lot of world news coverage where she lives. I've seen that first hand in some parts of the US while were there. *shrugs*
