Despite the wet conditions (how I miss the snow!) I managed to lug my suitcase and other travel stuff out of the basement. Let's see - it's been a year since I traveled internationally (Bangkok in February 2009) and about three years since I set foot in Africa (Kenya and Cameroon in December 2006). I haven't been to Dakar since 2000, in a combined trip to Banjul, the Gambia, when I was living in Morocco. So I'm kind of looking forward to it, and catching up with some friends who are now living there.
Probably the most famous Senegalese is Youssou N'Dour, whom MoBob and I saw in concert in Rabat. His album Egypt is a classic, and I can't believe we didn't catch the documentary "I Bring What I Love."
I have to start saying "Dakar" like the lady reporter on NPR: "dah-KAH."
