And don't respond with "on the express elevator to heaven."

From the LDS Grads e-list, here's the Map Gallery of Religion in the United States.

That is pretty interesting. I didn't realize that Catholics dominated NY state, although I guess I should have- everyone I knew who wasn't Jewish or black was Catholic. I'm Jewish, and I've seen the Jewish map before. Lotsa white on that one!

I kinda wish all the Protestant groups had been lumped together - I'm pretty sure the entire country would be the same 2-3 shades.

Yeah, I agree with that. Although I think Catholics would still dominate a lot of NY- just not the whole state. Just about all the irish, italians, and latinos are catholic.

A new view of Red and Blue States
I like the Church Bodies map best. I hadn't realized that LDS had made such inroads into Idaho. I guess it's hard to show dominance in parts of counties but supposedly the highest concentration of active church participants is among Mormons in south Orange County, CA.

That would be interesting - to overlay the Church Bodies map with the Red and Blue states....

My people are all over the place
Looking at the map for Episcopalians (can you get any more 'mainstream protestant' than Episcopalian??), I can see now why my family is so generic. Perhaps this is why my parents were attracted to the mormons... :-)
