One colleague has left for Zimbabwe as part of the USG response and another colleague is covering the crisis full time here in DC, along with others. The article and the accompanying photos in today's NYT just breaks my heart.
Sometimes I think that international development is a depressing field. I've spent every day for the past ten years thinking about poverty. I should focus on how my work contributes to, I don't know, world peace, but on days like these it's just overwhelming. Part of my frustration is that I really don't have a technical field per se, and I'm still a newbie when it comes to emergency response.
Some day I'll dramatically change careers and start doing...what, exactly?
