Here I am spending the weekend in Amsterdam taking pictures of men wearing orange-colored afro wigs. I'm not kidding - I guess the Dutch team is playing in the Euro 2008 tournament. Or something like that anyway.
I'm really impressed with Amsterdam. Clean, orderly, fantastic modern architecture. Unfortunately I left my camera bag + cable somewhere in Brussels so I can't download/upload any photos for awhile.
It's been a long time since I've been in a place where I have difficulty deciphering any text. Romance languages resemble each other enough that I could get along ok somewhere like Brazil, but here I'm completely lost. Sure, everyone speaks English, but you have to find someone first.
I also think that people assume I'm Indonesian because everyone speaks to me in Dutch. To me Dutch resembles Arabic in that the speaker always sounds like s/he is clearing his/her throat. If Turkish sounds like Cardassian to my ears then Dutch sounds like...Kikuyu?
