I will be checking a bag after all - because of sunscreen, of all things. Apparently sunscreen is very expensive in Brazil ($15+ per bottle). Since I'll be gone for two weeks in three different countries the 3 oz tubes just won't be enough. Plus I like the spray kind. (I wish the sunscreen/bug juice combo would come in a spray bottle.) Oh well.
I'm having tummy troubles so I went home at noon. I've been imbibing Vile Pink Liquid and I do feel better, though it's never fun with frequent trips to the loo. In America! Maybe it's the 22 Peppermint Patties I had.
You know what? It's only $15. You should just not check a bag, buy a small bottle in Location 1, leave it behind if absolutely necessary, and splurge and buy a new one if needed at Location 2 or whatever.
Seriously. Traveling without checked baggage is so liberating. It will cost you more if it gets lost and you have to buy more new things.
You're right, it's only $15 - but I'd rather spend that $15 in a restaurant, and the time looking for sunscreen on the beach. As for liberating, I think it's liberating to check a bag and then not have to worry about going to the loo while dragging it around. Also, I want to take advantage of the fact that this time there will be people lugging around my bag for me! (I'll think about it some more, anyway.)

Bullfrog makes a sunscreen/repellent in a spray bottle. I have some for the kids. I've never used it, because in our neck of the woods the sun and the bugs are generally not out at the same time. Maybe if/when we go camping.
