It says something about my state of mind when Saturday noon found me still in bed, while ticketed for the Air France flight at 4:55pm out of Dulles. I'm sure MoBob actually thought he might have to throw a trench coat over my pajamas and wrestle me out the door.
I tried following some of the advice in the recent lifehacker.com article on long plane rides, and managed to sleep despite a seat that refused to recline all the way. I did the usual sprint to the connecting flight to Lyon, and then arrived at the hotel at 10:30am to find that my room wouldn't be ready until 2pm. So I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and adjust to the time change as quickly as possible by staying awake and visiting the Museum of Textiles and Decorative Arts. Interestingly at the end of each exhibit there was a display of a Hermès scarf that was inspired by the exhibit's theme.
Then on to the Institut Lumière. Did you know that movies were invented in Lyon, by the Lumière brothers? Appropriately "lumière" means "light." I skipped over the technical exhibits, but I really enjoyed the short films and photos. I bought a book of 19th century photographs of Morocco for MB. My favorite exhibit was the 100th anniversary tribute by forty famous directors using the original camera, especially Claude Lelouch's contribution, which shows the history of cinematography while filming around...a kiss.
I really thought about asking you if I could come visit but then I got shy! I think I will stay in Lyon this weekend though because I just forked out 108 Eur for the train ticket to see the in-laws.
I'll be back in April for two weeks....
