I love Christmas in DC! It's so, I dunno, "official." (Photos forthcoming.)
Went to the Hirshhorn Museum. Had a lot of "what the hell?" moments while looking at modern art. Still, it was amusing, if somewhat befuddling, to wander around the empty galleries on a Saturday morning.
Then we went to Paskong Pilipinas which was as hokey as any fiesta I've attended. An event that ends with everyone joining hands and swaying with lit cell phones definitely qualifies as "corny." I was impressed thought that 200+ people ventured in from the suburbs to attend, and then we had a pretty substantial buffet afterwards.
We decided to make the rounds of the Christmas trees in town. First the Capitol Hill tree which was just gorgeous, and then over to the US Botanical Garden which has the best miniature railway display. A walk further down the National Mall to the ice skating rink. We were too late to make the last session but it was fun to watch, especially the few "wall-clutchers" struggling along on their skates. Then on to the White House Christmas tree, right behind the National Menorah and surrounded by smaller trees from each of the fifty states. I liked the Capitol Hill tree much better; I love the blue lights. There was a small stage with performances every half hour - for a chilly Sunday evening there were lots of people milling about.
