So yesterday I was looking up a reference for a document and it turns out it was authored by a former classmate, who's now a consultant in gender and development. That's MY field! MINE! Grr! How dare she!
Then this morning on NPR I heard another former classmate opining on the Democratic Republic of Congo's natural resources.
I know I shouldn't compare myself. I am darn lucky to be where I am doing what I'm doing.
On the other hand, I did get this flattering email yesterday from a peskily earnest BYU grad student:
Thanks so much for your prompt reply and your willingness to help out!
I got your name while doing Google searches on Filipino researchers.
Somehow in all my searching I ran across your name in an article in
the Washington Post (I believe?). Your story intrigued me, and I
figured it couldn't hurt contacting you as you might know the type of
people I need to get in contact with. By the way, I'd love to know
what you're doing in Burkina Faso if you get the chance.
